The California Tribal Lady Eagles showcased resilience and determination in a challenging weekend of basketball on the road in New Mexico.
Game 1: A Battle Against the Best
The Eagles took on Northern New Mexico, the top-ranked team in the NAIA Continental Conference, on Saturday. After arriving in Santa Fe late Friday evening, the team faced a tough start, digging themselves into a hole during the first half. However, their unwavering spirit shone through as they regrouped and dominated the second half, outscoring their opponents. Despite the valiant effort, the early deficit proved too much to overcome, and the Eagles fell in a close 5-point loss.
Head Coach Christian Chapman reflected, “We showed what we’re capable of in the second half. This team doesn’t back down, and that’s something to be proud of.”
Game 2: Bouncing Back in Style
With a quick turnaround, the Lady

Eagles hit the court again Sunday afternoon against conference rival Navajo Tech. Fueled by lessons from the previous day and a renewed focus, the Eagles controlled the game from start to finish. Their relentless energy, precision offense, and lockdown defense were too much for Navajo Tech to handle, resulting in an impressive 90-42 victory.
The win solidified the Lady Eagles’ 2-0 standing in the SWS Conference and demonstrated their ability to adapt and grow, even in the face of adversity.
“We knew this weekend would test us,” said Coach Chapman. “The way we responded—especially in the second game—shows the heart of this team. This is only the beginning.”
The Lady Eagles leave New Mexico stronger, more determined, and ready to soar even higher as they continue their journey through the season.
