The California Tribal Women’s Basketball team faced a tough but rewarding road trip to Arizona this weekend, showcasing their growth and potential in the SWS Conference.
Game 1: Victory Over Nelson University
On Friday night, the team earned a decisive win over conference foe Nelson University, executing a well-rounded performance to secure their first victory of the weekend. The game demonstrated the team’s ability to rise to the occasion in pivotal conference matchups.
Game 2: Battling Benedictine
The quick turnaround had the team back on the court Saturday morning at 11 a.m., facing a strong and established Benedictine program. Despite the tight schedule, the team fought hard, losing by just three points in a game that came down to the final moments. While the loss stung, the narrow margin against a seasoned opponent sent a clear message: California Tribal Women’s Basketball is a serious contender in the SWS and will have hopes to join in the Cal Pac Conference.
Off-Court Highlights
The trip wasn’t just about basketball. The team had the unique opportunity to visit and work out at the Salt River Community Center, affectionately known as “Wolf,” the home gym of point guard Kristine “Tween” Scabby. Friends and family packed the stands, creating an electric atmosphere that fueled the team’s performance and strengthened their bond.
This weekend’s road trip was about more than wins and losses. It was a testament to the team’s resilience, chemistry, and ability to grow from each experience. With their sights set on the rest of the season, California Tribal Women’s Basketball is primed to make waves in the SWS Conference.
